Three Decades of Expert Service

Partnership Counsel has been a leader in Partnership Law for over 3 decades.

Our Story

Partnership Counsel was founded on a simple conviction: partnership law is complex enough that it deserves dedicated specialists. More than three decades later, that conviction remains unchanged.

1991

A Singular Vision

Chambers Founded

Roderick I'Anson Banks established Partnership Counsel as the only chambers in England and Wales devoted exclusively to partnership law.

The key difference in Roderick's approach was a fundamental change to the way in which advice was typically given. Rather than incurring the time and expense of written opinions, clients often preferred to be advised in conference. Instead of back-and-forth questions arising from a written opinion, Roderick's expertise allowed him to deal with whatever arose; often taking a completely different direction as new facts and tactial considerations emerged.

The Next Chapter

Simon Jelf Joins Chambers

Simon was called to the Bar in 1996 and joined the Law Commission, where he worked on the review of Partnership Law. It was during this time that he met Roderick, in his role as a consultant. Simon joined chambers in 1999, where he quickly became immersed in the practical aspects of partnership law. Adopting the same approach as Roderick, Simon also became known for his ability to use his expertise to advise in conference.

The Baton Passes

Roderick Retires

Following Roderick's retirement in 2023, Simon decided to continue chambers as a niche practice, supported by Tyroon Win, our longstanding Practice Manager.

Today

The Story Continues
